#23

The operative word around here this past week has been Passover. Various items have been scrubbed, dusted, and put away, while other, just for Passover things have come down off the high shelf. Probably most notable is that we polished the silver. Not that we own a lot of silver, but we do have silver candlesticks, kiddush cups and a silver tray that the aforementioned items sit on. And here's the kicker, we only polish the silver twice a year.

That makes for a very satisfying experience. So much so that as I was working away at my incredibly tarnished candlesticks Abi asked if she could help. She wanted in on transforming the somewhat brownish items into gleaming silver.

Much as I dread the cleaning, I do really enjoy the way everything(refrigerator, oven, pantry) sparkle in preparation for Passover.
Cleaning for Passover, however, is not exclusive to our family. It's the subject of many conversataions in the weeks leading up to the holiday. But there is one tradition that I'm not sure everyone follows. In our family, part of preparing for this holiday is making something new to wear at the seder. My two older girls aren't as into this as they used to be, but luckily I still have a ten year old and she's more than happy to indulge me. What's more, she's willing to model her new something so that I can show it off here.

After we were done polishing the silver, Abi changed into the skirt I made her yesterday.

She seemed especially happy that I used some of my own hand dyed fabric for her skirt. Needless to say the bigger her smile got, the bigger mine became. After a few pictures our collective joy became pretty obvious.

Happy Weekend and Chag Sameach!!

Week in Review

So,I'm reviewing the week, which is good because I semi-committed to making that a regular feature. But, my recap can't reference any other blog entries this week because I didn't post at all this week. And I wasn't even on vacation.
I did add some fabric to my shop and will probably add some more this afternoon.I also made this bag. It's just like the bag I made Abi before we went to Mexico. This time, I made the body of the bag with some of my full circle batik fabric and the handles with a Denyse Schmidt print. Here's a view of the interior of the tote. And another pillow.
I added all these goodies to my shop and have plans to make more. There's something inspiring about maintaining my little slice of the internet marketplace. I think my enthusiasm might be contagious, because Abi has asked me if she could sell some of her softies in my shop. I'll be adding those soon. Who knows? Maybe they'll be part of my week in review next time?

Week in Review

OK. This is the second time I've posted a week in review, which, in my world, practically makes it a tradition. I don't want to commit to a weekly review because, the minute I do, that will be the death knell of the entire idea. It seems like the viability of an idea is greatly reduced by verbalizing it. Why is that? And am I the only one who suffers from this syndrome?
Anyway, here's my week in review, as we say in Hebrew, bli neder(meaning: without committing to anything).I started this pillow before I left for Mexico.
I used some much loved fabric and buttons for the back.Another twinkle pillow, this time in more muted tones.Except for the back.I also made more of my E block fabric. I'm planning on adding it to my store , but I haven't taken enough pictures yet. Maybe in next week's review, I'll have more shots of this and other fabric. Bli neder, of course.

Week in Review

In reviewing my week, I can tell you one thing I haven't done much of and that's posting. I have been reading blogs, but I've been busy sewing, dyeing and crocheting( yes, I'm still working on my ripple blanket). I'll be going out of town Tuesday of next week, so, I thought that I should update my blog before too much more time goes by.
I spent some time this week batiking.
Two new colorways of my E block fabric. I'm planning on using this fabric to make a camera case to safely tote mine around. I'm also putting together a batik tutorial, but that is going kind of slowly. It never dawned on me how many little steps and variables there are in the process. And how important it is to document those steps. I've begun taking pictures, but it won't be ready before I leave.
Another top?!!Yep. And today I'm going to make a new top for Abi. I am so loving sewing clothes lately. It's the ultimate in quick, satisfying project and you don't have to ask folks if they'd like to see what you've made, you're your own walking advertisement.
Also, I made this patchwork keyhole scarf using two colorways of my full circle fabric. It seemed like a good way to use up leftovers too small for garments. I've added this one to my shop .
Hope everyone has had a good week and is looking forward to an even better weekend.
