Yesterday I stopped what I was supposed to be working on to make something I really, really wanted to make. And I wanted to make it NOW!
I've had a Pentax k1000 film camera for a long time, but in the last few years it's fallen into disrepair and I've had a digital SLR, so I haven't bothered to fix it. Lately, I've really wanted to start using my film camera again and did a little research into the cost of repairing my camera. Unfortunately, it just wasn't worth it, so I headed over to ebay and bought a used Pentax k1000. It arrived yesterday and was in great condition, but the strap the original owner had for the camera frankly grossed me out. I couldn't imagine letting that thing touch my neck. I'm no shrinking violet, but, ugh.... So I crafted myself an alternative.
Now my new-to-me camera has a new strap and battery, has been loaded with film, and I've even taken a few pictures. I am so excited about this and I've been incredibly inspired by some of the amazing film images I've seen on flickr. Check out this set and then try to resist the urge to troll ebay for film cameras.

Oh, I love those spots! Isn't it great to make exactly what you want when you want it?
The strap is awesome! Me want!!!
that strap is great! i have been thinking about a film camera for months and black and white film. i love my digital but there is something about a film camera and waiting for the pictures to be developed. i left my nikon in hawaii with my son who loves it. maybe i too will go to ebay and see what they have to offer
That is a great strap.
Isn't it so funny how there is a sort of movement to use film? I think it is great. Actually I just recently (Christmas) switched to digital so I have two film cameras that see a lot of love.
Gave my old camera years ago to my daughter...can I take it back now? I had a Canon AE1.....
How are you quilting these...on what type of machine?

I'm in the same situation. I have a Pentax k1000 that was my dad's, but it needs to be repaired. I thought it was just a battery issue and it took me forever to finally find a battery but still doesn't work. We just got a Canon Powershot S5IS, but I missing using the Pentax--I love the clicking sound. Weird, I know. I've been wanting to make a strap for the Canon, but just haven't gotten around to it. I really need to buy some of your fabrics, I love them!
The camera rocks! But I'm loving the handmade strap just as much! Hope you have tons of fun capturing life with your new toy!
what a fantastic idea :) my k1000 is looking enviously at your k1000, feeling underdressed in her plain old pentax strap...
