A Week of Finishing :: Hexagon Quilt

The quilt measures about 36"x 45". I don't know the dimensions of the train depot or the cow.

Love the quilt. And the pics. And the laugh...

I course I love the quilt but I also love the way you photographed the last two quilts. Great settings to contrast with the wonderful colors and deasign.

The line about the train and the cow got me giggling and then reading Lori's comment got me tickled all over again.

Beautiful quilt : )

Okay, so are big are the hexagons? They seem to bigger than the usual sizes.

Jennifer-
It's not paper pieced. it's actually machine pieced. It's a very simple technique where you leave 1/4" unseamed so the you can maneuver the pieces to fit together. Maybe I'll work up a tutorial for it.
Helen- The hexagons measure about 4" across.

Really beautiful.
Was the binding tricky?
Andi :-)

Andi- The binding is pretty easy to do as long as you use binding strips that you've cut on the crosswise grain. It's all about the strips being stretchy.

We have one of your smaller quilts hanging in our home and we love it. However, this evening my husband wandered past my laptop and saw this piece and fell in love. It's gorgeous.

I love this quilt!! I still don't know how it is done? You say its machine pieced? Is there a pattern for it? I would love to see a tutorial on this. Beautiful work! Thank you.

Hi Malka,
A friend of mine, Candace, just emailed me the link to this post telling me she thought of me as soon as she saw your quilt and I'm so glad she did! I just made a machine pieced hex quilt (you can see the post here: http://sewtakeahike.typepad.com/sewtakeahike/2009/06/the-storyteller-completed-and-colorful-crochet.html ) and had a question about binding a quilt like this. I finished off the sides straight, but the top and bottom had peaks and valleys. I just had a few questions about your process because I know there has to be an easier way to do it than what I did! I'll send you an email directly!

This is so gorgeous! I love your color choices. I've gone a bit batty for hexagons lately--as my blog will attest.
