#24

I've been pretty quiet here on my blog, but it's not because of inactivity. First I wanted to let you all know that I'm going to be at the Renegade Craft Fair in Brooklyn, June 14 and 15. I'm very excited about this, partly because I think it will be a lot of fun and partly because we're turning it into a mini family vacation and plan on spending a few extra days in NYC. So, if you happen to live in or near NYC and would like to stop by my booth, I'd love to meet you in the flesh,as they say. I'm sure I'll be posting about that in the weeks to come.
I've started planning some of the things I'm going to make for the fair, but mostly this past week has been taken up with finishing several custom orders. All of the items were repeats of designs I've sold in the past.

These two are slight variations of other pillows.

These two are basically exact copies(as much as one-of-a-kind pieces can be copied). I'm always amazed when I manage to copy something. I don't know why, but it's one of those things that I build up in my mind as much more difficult than it actually is. I guess I worry that the person ordering the item will scrutinize it to make sure that every seam and stitch is the same. That's so ridiculous, but I worry about it nonetheless. All in all, I'm happy with how the re-creations came out. I did get to make something that was, if not completely new, at least something that I hadn't made for a while.

I've made this keyhole scarf design before, but not recently and not in this fabric combination. It was definitely a nice respite from the pillow making. I'll probably be itching to make more of these in the next few weeks as I think pillow covers will be big on my sewing agenda.

I wish I was going to be anywhere near NYC for the Renegade fair, but alas, I won't, so I won't be able to see your fab fabrics (or you) in the flesh. I bet your work will be very popular theer though, and I (for one) would love to see lots of keyhole scarves.

was glad to see the stuff you've been working on lately. i got that book by lotta....i like the presentation....i think i will be getting the most from the block printing and ya know, i have NEVER carved or done a potatoe print before but that is going to change. mark redid one of the steps down to the basement, i swear, those old guys most of been pretty drunk the day they did the stairs, every single one is a different heighth, depth, length so it is a little scarry at times for me going down there but that is where most of my fabric lives and my dyeing area and cutting table and gammil....we joke about putting in one of those chair lifts that travel above the stairs. i am NOT that feeble yet! love your stuff!

They are all so beautiful! The orange pillow with the purple & blue center is especially striking. And the scarf looks gorgeous on you! I also find it difficult to repeat a design, even to do a different design in the same fabric combo I've used before is hard for me. But then, picking out fabrics and putting them together is my favorite part of the process ;-)

ooohh, maybe my daughter Carrie and I will run up to Renegade.
What made you decide to participate since you live so far away?

Cindy- I seriously love NY and I haven't been there in a couple years, so it seemed like a good reason to go. I hope I'll see you there.

Whoa! Congratulations! I did Renegade in Chicago twice. We called the first trip a "family vacation," too. I'm glad to hear you've scheduled some time for yourself outside of the show. Where are they doing it this year? Not in the pool again? I'm going to have to look it up. It's always fun to use a good show as an excuse to travel! Good luck! Your stuff will sell like crazy.
