First things first. I have to thank all of you who wrote such nice, heart warming comments to me about the Quilting Arts article. It's been wonderful to see my work in print, but it's beyond great to be able to share it with others and to feel their enthusiasm and support. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Yep! It's been sewn(visual evidence provided below).
And here it is all laid out on my bed.
Well maybe not all laid out because this is king size and our bed is a common double, but you get the picture. I had a minor panic attack earlier in the day when I seemed to have mislaid a couple of blocks, but, after some well chosen curse words (the kind I tell my kids not to use), I found the missing pieces and finished the sewing.
I purchased the backing fabric a week or so ago and the other day bought the batting. I ended up buying batting that was sized as "generous queen", but I'm having second thoughts and may run to the store to purchase a certified king size batting.
Sunday I'm quilting this on a rented long arm. Monday, I'll finish the binding. And then it will just be a matter of mailing it to it's new home. I see the light at the end of the tunnel.

WOOOOOOW! It looks terrific! I love it.
Can you show us the long arm later? I've never seen one.
And may I ask who is the blessed owner of this beauty?
hi malka,
this is truly beautiful. such an amazing accomplishment! can't wait to see it all quilted, please share before it goes home.
it's been such a pleasure to discover your work and your blog. i'm fascinated by your dyeing processes.
congratulations on your well deserved success!
This is amazing! Congrats of getting so far along with it!
Its absolutely beautiful! I've enjoyed watching the journey.
Followed the link from Jude's blog and am glad I did. Have just done my first dyeing EVER, and will now find the QA mag in which you feature and re-read it all. Love your circles, and will certainly be back to see what you do next.
I love this quilt - would love to see it again when it is finished!
WOW ...but hold on: "mailing it to its new home"? You are not keeping this? You are so much better than I will ever be. I'd never be able to part with work this lovely, unless of course the recipient's will stated that it return to me upon his / her demise (ok, now that was morbid ...).
Good luck with the long-arm and so looking forward to seeing the finished thing.
Absolutely gorgeous!
And best to have too much batting than not enough!
This quilt is amazing--thanks for sharing it with us! I placed an order on your etsy site for some of your hand dyes, which I obviously love! I meant to put a note on there to let you know how I found you and your blog. I have been reading Melody Johnson's blog for a while now and she had such nice things to say and showed us some of your work, which is absolutely wonderful and inspiring! I followed her link to you and found a great new blog to follow and lots of great hand dyes!
Thanks so much, cathi
Beautiful and amazing! This quilt is totally entrancing! Heartfelt ongratulations!!!
That looks great! I have never done any blocks like that, but I want to after seeing your beautiful quilt top.
I cannot wait to see photos of this once it's all finished. It's absolutely beautiful and quilting always makes the quilt top even prettier. Though I'm not quite sure how that's even possible in this case...
Oh Malka,
that is an amazing quilt.
I don't know how I would let this one go.
Please, post pictures ater quilted as well.
Oooh so close to the end. Will you be a little sad when you send it off?
wowsers. I love it. will you be hand-binding it, also? yikes.
The quilt is fabulous!!! I didn't even know you could rent long-arms, what a great idea. (And I'm so glad I'm not the only one who loses blocks/fabric pieces. Like, I just had my hand on that!
Also a belated CONGRATS on the QA cover article!!! TOO COOL!!!
congratulations! i enjoy your blog and the finished product is stunning. i'm going to keep my eye out for the quilting arts mag!
I've been following your progress and just had to tell you how fab it looks. I want one! (but probably not badly enough to attempt it) Way to go.
it's an amazing quilt! before I read your article in the magazine I thought you appliqued all those circles on. and if that was the case, I would not be able to imagine how time intenstive that would be! (Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it was plenty time consuming as it is.) nice job finishing it. I bet it was a joy to finish sewing that last seam.
What mammoth effort ... I love cirles & I can't wait for QA to arrive to learn you technique - living down under I know doubt won't get it for a few more weeks ... but this quilt ... well... it just blews me away ... you should be feeling justly proud ... I need to read about it from the beginning ... Now I'll be back that's for sure ... OOroo ... Bethel of Bethania
Wow!! What an amazing quilt!
Fantastic - the quilt and your staying power! Congrats on making the cover, too.
Wow, that looks just amazing. What a feat of workmanship! I hope that the recipients enjoy the real thing as much as I have watched the process of it being made.
This is stunning!
I hope you will show us how it looks after quilting.
i strongly suggest you buy the king size batting...once you are on that long arm and come to the end of the batting with lots of top to go.....you get my drift :-) it is beautiful and i love the cover shot! i always enjoy your stuff and cannot wait for your book to come out! happy trails
Your twinkles are cute and AMAZING!
a question on dying:
do you have any experience with putting a cut out shape in the middle of your twinkle circle? If one were to try - do you think the dye would permeate the whole shape?
I love it - and I am looking forward to the pics of your finished artwork.
Thank you for sharing some of your moments of your fascinating work! You're very inspiring.
That is gorgeous, and I wish it was coming to me...
Thanks everyone!
Erin- You could clamp a shape that has a cutout. Just make sure that you've got some clamps that keep the dye from seeping in.
Wow, this is so beautiful. I'm really inspired by your creative approach
this is the most amazing quilt i've ever seen. you are very talented and patient.
